These ten places cover palace architecture, archaeological sites, mountain scenery, wildlife and a river landscape. They are grouped by city so the reader can see which visits share a base and which require another region. The hours below distinguish closing time from last admission and identify dated notices where a universal daily timetable would be misleading. Suggested durations are planning allowances rather than official minimum stays. Check the linked operator again for the travel date, especially during the 1–7 October 2026 National Day break.

Palace Museum / Forbidden City

Enter from the Meridian Gate under the museum’s one-way visitor arrangement. The palace, a surrounding public square and nearby collections have different access rules. Select the reserved date first, then put a nearby walk around it. A closed restoration area can alter a familiar route, so use the current notice rather than a photograph as a map.

  • Opening and last entry: 08:30–17:00, 1 April–31 October; last entry 16:00. 08:30–16:30, 1 November–31 March; last entry 15:30. Normally closed Mondays except statutory holidays.
  • Reservation: Advance real-name reservation through the museum’s official channel; some exhibitions require another reservation.
  • Suggested visit: 3–4 hours inside, plus the actual journey and entry process.

Temple of Heaven

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Echo Wall and Circular Mound Altar are the named through-ticket sites. A late park walk does not imply access to these monuments. Check the current holiday notice if visiting on a Monday. Keep enough time to move between the principal areas rather than arrive at a monument just before its own entry cutoff.

  • Opening and last entry: Official English page: park access 06:00–21:00. Principal through-ticket monuments admit 08:00–17:30 in April–October and 08:00–16:30 in November–March; the monument areas close at 18:00 or 17:00 respectively, Tuesday–Sunday.
  • Reservation: Use the park’s current ticket and passport instructions; the grounds and principal monuments are different admissions.
  • Suggested visit: 2–3 hours for a selected park-and-monument circuit.

Summer Palace

Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill create different walking demands. Choose the entry gate and route for the party’s mobility. The East Palace Gate is served from Xiyuan on Metro Line 4, while Beigongmen serves the north side. A boat, if operating, is another service rather than a guaranteed component of every park ticket.

  • Opening and last entry: Grounds: 06:00–20:00, last entry 19:00, April–October; 06:30–19:00, last entry 18:00, November–March. Inner paid sites have shorter hours and Monday closures except statutory holidays.
  • Reservation: Foreign visitors can use the official Summer Palace booking channel with an accepted passport; select grounds or the appropriate combined ticket.
  • Suggested visit: 3–4 hours for a selected lakeside route; longer for extensive hill walking.

Mutianyu Great Wall

Mutianyu is a specific Wall section. Do not book a generic Great Wall pickup without the actual site and return point. Cable-car and ropeway or slide services can be separately operated and their tickets are not automatically interchangeable. Ask which access method suits the party and keep a practical allowance for returning to the city.

  • Opening and last entry: Peak-season baseline: weekdays 07:30–18:00, weekends 07:30–18:30, 16 March–15 November 2026. The live site announces extended 07:30–20:00 operation for 25 September–6 October; verify the selected day.
  • Reservation: Real-name booking through the operator; Wall admission, shuttle and cableway products need their own inclusion check.
  • Suggested visit: 3–4 hours in the scenic area, plus the Beijing road transfer.

Terracotta Army / Qin Mausoleum Museum

The operator identifies the North Gate as the entrance and provides a shuttle between the Terracotta Army area and Lishan Garden. Those two parts should be planned deliberately rather than assumed to be one small room. The site is in Lintong outside central Xi’an. Keep the actual return transfer separate from a later fixed train.

  • Opening and last entry: Admission begins 08:30. Published last entry: 17:00, 16 March–15 November; 16:30, 16 November–15 March. Major holidays can use a separate notice.
  • Reservation: All visitors, including foreign passport holders, require the official real-name advance ticket and the original matching document.
  • Suggested visit: 3–4 hours for the principal complex, with more time for both museum areas.

Potala Palace

Lhasa travel has additional arrangements for many overseas visitors, which should be confirmed through the authorized local organizer before a palace reservation is treated as sufficient. Steps and altitude affect the visit. The 2026 notice distinguishes Route 1 and Route 2 tickets. A photograph from the public square is different from entering the palace rooms, where posted photography rules apply.

  • Opening and last entry: 2026 peak-season notice: opens 09:00, last entry 15:40, 1 May–31 October. Winter notice: opens 09:30, last entry 15:20, 1 November–30 April. Monday closure applies except statutory holidays from 1 December 2025.
  • Reservation: The April 2026 official notice asks for booking 10 days ahead through the official reservation system; confirm the assigned route and time.
  • Suggested visit: Allow about 2–3 hours including approach and checks; follow any shorter interior visit limit assigned by the operator.

Yungang Grottoes

The September notice describes three public guided sessions and a meeting place outside the institute-history museum, illustrating why a tour time must be checked separately. Carved interiors and open-air sculpture need different interpretation and conservation behaviour. Follow restrictions on lighting and photography. A wider Datong programme should leave the out-of-city transfer visible rather than place another remote site immediately afterwards.

  • Opening and last entry: The latest dated government notice checked here gives 08:00–17:00 for September 2026. This is a month-specific notice; obtain the operator’s current October or winter hours before a later visit.
  • Reservation: Reserve the current admission through the official Yungang service; a dated guided-session reservation is separate from general admission.
  • Suggested visit: 2–3 hours for a selected grotto circuit, plus the Datong transfer.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

This facility is distinct from Dujiangyan Panda Valley. Reserve the actual site named in the itinerary. Animals’ activity, enclosure use and viewing availability vary; an early admission does not guarantee a particular panda or behaviour. Keep the route manageable for the group and observe barriers. A ticket package or redemption code still needs the operator’s stated date-booking step.

  • Opening and last entry: March–October entry 07:30–17:00, clearance from 18:00; November–February entry 08:00–16:30, clearance from 17:30. Morning and afternoon entry windows are sold separately.
  • Reservation: Official online reservation up to 14 days ahead under the published ticket rules; bring the matching original document.
  • Suggested visit: 3–4 hours for a selected walking route and animal-viewing periods.

Li River

A full cruise and a shorter Xingping-area activity are different products. Water conditions can alter routes or operation. The operator’s October 2026 portal carries ticket-availability and National Day notices, so a generic daily timetable is insufficient. Confirm where the party disembarks and where the vehicle meets them. A countryside walk can be another day rather than a rushed add-on after a late return.

  • Opening and last entry: No single opening hour covers every cruise, raft or riverside path. The confirmed sailing ticket supplies boarding and departure times; the official portal publishes current wharf and service notices.
  • Reservation: Book the exact operator, route, sailing date and departure wharf. Check whether a scenic-area activity uses a separate admission or age condition.
  • Suggested visit: Keep a full half-day or more for a cruise and ground transfers; obtain the actual service duration before adding another fixed booking.

Mount Huangshan / Yellow Mountain

Downtown Huangshan, the Tangkou gateway and the summit paths are different locations. The last hiking admission can be earlier than the last cableway operation. Because the general page contains differing seasonal timings, do not plan a tight descent from its headline hours. Read the committee’s current notice and identify the last practical downhill service. Wet stone steps and weather-related closures can change the selected route.

  • Opening and last entry: The municipal tourism page gives a general daytime baseline of 07:00–17:00 weekdays and 06:30–17:30 weekends or short holidays, but also contains seasonal variations. Use the current scenic-area committee notice for the actual gate, cableway and date.
  • Reservation: Book the named entry direction and time through the official Huangshan platform; specific peaks may need an additional reservation.
  • Suggested visit: A full day for a selected mountain route; an overnight mountain stay needs a separate hotel and descent plan.

Turn the list into a route

For a ten-day first trip, Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai can form three bases without including every destination above. Beijing alone offers four of these visits with different districts and transport needs; give the Great Wall a separate outing. Xi’an needs a Lintong transfer for the mausoleum museum. Chengdu, Guilin, Datong, Lhasa and Huangshan are regional choices that should replace or deepen part of the core route when the available nights allow it. A map distance does not include the station transfer, security, baggage and hotel check-in.

Keep one principal named admission per day and place a nearby walk or meal around it. Match the original passport to the reservation and retain the actual entry gate, meeting point and cancellation deadline. A driver or guide booking does not automatically include a museum ticket. If a site is full or closed, use another available day or a confirmed nearby activity rather than arrive expecting that a general travel article guarantees entry. For a family or slower walker, ask the operator about the precise steps, accessible paths and facilities on the proposed route.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit all ten places in one short trip?

They lie across several regions. Select a coherent route instead of treating the list as a ten-day checklist. Beijing and Xi’an can share a first route, while Lhasa, Guilin or Huangshan need their own transport and nights.

Are closing time and last admission the same?

Often they differ. Palace Museum, Summer Palace, Panda Base and mountain services have separate cutoff or clearance times. The Li River ticket supplies a sailing time rather than one universal attraction opening hour.

Do overseas visitors need advance reservations?

Several principal venues use named advance booking, including the Palace Museum, Terracotta Army and Panda Base. Use the actual operator instructions and carry the original document used for the purchase. Check each site independently.

Which details should I recheck near departure?

Confirm the dated opening notice, assigned entry slot, gate, original-document requirement and the last return transport. Yungang and Huangshan timings are especially notice-specific in the sources above. Weather or maintenance can close a particular area.

Does the suggested duration include the city transfer?

The entries distinguish time inside from the actual journey where possible. Lintong, Mutianyu and mountain gateways require additional travel. Calculate the full door-to-door movement before placing another fixed appointment afterwards.
